Are you serious? It’s not a disorder. Stop spreading that “meme” to people who may feel hopelessly stuck with this “disorder” for the rest of their lives.
DISCLAIMER: I’d rather help people feel hopeful rather than hopeless. I honestly believe I used to have the worst case of add, especially when I stopped taking my medication (I took it for over 8 years!). I’m only here to help you and others who are suffering.
Everyone has such an uneducated skewed perspective on curing ADHD/ADD (including my doctor).
About two years ago (I was still taking medication) I tried to have a conversation with my doctor about Adderall. I wanted to understand the science behind the “disorder”, why I have it and what Adderall does to the brain. He really didn’t understand how it effected the brain scientifically. He only knew that it was a medication to treat symptoms of ADD, which he went on to list to me and share a sheet of paper sponsored by Shire Pharmaceuticals.
I went home and researched everything I could get my hands on, in result, I found a way to cure ‘my own case’ of ADD.
I wanted to understand what exactly is happening in my brain to create feelings of distraction, lack of focus and fatigue when I am studying something I am not interested in. What process goes on in the brain to make us feel focused, excited, positive, confident, motivated, attentive, etc?
So here’s what I came up with.
The only thing that we know for sure about ADD and ADHD is that people feel “cured” when they take medication such as Adderall or ritalin. I’m speaking only for those people, because I felt 100% great (a little hyper) when I was on medication. We feel (what we assume to be) “normal”. If you find that medication works for you, basically you are already on the right path to a cure. Adderall is not a “magic pill” that suddenly removes the “disorder”. It’s a powerful amphetamine that works this way:
“It is thought to work by increasing the amount of dopamine and norepinephrine in the brain. In addition, the drug also acts as a potent dopamine reuptake inhibitor and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor.”
“Like other powerful stimulant drugs, such as methamphetamine and cocaine, Adderall directly affects the mesolimbic reward pathway in the brain”
We naturally produce Dopamine, Serotonin and Norepinephrine, there are ways to produce more of it “naturally” rather than through forcing an increase. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dopamine)
Here’s a way to increase your Dopamine, Serotonin and Norepinephrine (Put as simply as possible):
*Schedule your meals (helps focus)*Consume as much organic foods without any additives, artificial sugars (high fructose corn syrup) and pesticides, try to remove gluten as well – a lot of people suffer from gluten allergies and mistake it for ADD.
*Consume Bananas & Almonds (they are high in Tyrosine and Tryptophan – they pass the blood/brain barrier unlike many vitamins and help the brain produce dopamine and serotonin.
*Consume Vitamins: All b vitamins are amazing for energy, positive mood.
*Exercise in a scheduled manner.I highly suggest exercising 3 times a day to produce dopamine efficiently (walking for an hour is perfect.
*Travel & experience new things
*Yoga
Facts to back this all up:
L-Tyrosine

ATTENTION Everyone who is angry at me for disputing their belief that “attention deficit disorder is real, a “disorder”, a permanent struggle”…
If you are EVER going to communicate with ANYONE about ADD/ADHD whether you are a parent of a child who you are testing for it, a college student or an adult who wants more energy, concentration, happiness etc – you MUST read this information above. You can’t go around reading the Shire pharmaceutical promoted articles/information data sheets about ADD because they aren’t logical – they don’t tell you what is exactly happening to the brain – or give you an acurate way to understand if you really do have a Dopamine/Norepinephrine deficiency”.

I have a lot more info on this subject, I’ve dedicated a ton of time to researching about it over the last 2 years – I just don’t have time to list it all now! lol
